Sagay, Duncan-Clarke Led The Way In 88-31 Victory Over Gateway
MANCHESTER – Ericka Sagay (Bloomfield) had 17 points and 11 rebounds as Manchester CC (2-0) beat Gateway CC (0-2) 88-31 Thursday night at the Great Path Academy gym. Shenielle Duncan Clarke (Bloomfield) had 15 points, eight assists and seven steals.
Manchester had five players with 10 points or more. Callie Tambling (Manchester) had 15, Jazlynn Canino (East Hartford)had 12 and Elise Chase (Vernon) had 10.
Gateway’s Cynthia Stancil led the Lady Lions with 14 points.
“I was impressed with their unselfishness,” sixth year assistant coach Katie MacVarish said of the Cougars. “We need to work on a few things but it’s early in the season. We have girls in positions they don’t normally play so they need to remember their spots.”
The Cougars travel to Haverhill, MA on Saturday for a 1PM game with Northern Essex CC, then return home to host defending Region 15 champs Brookdale CC Sunday at 2 PM. Brookdale and Manchester met in the 2010 NJCAA Division III National Championship Tournament with Brookdale winning the March 11 game 80-70.
