Excursions in Learning is an educational enrichment program for youth at Manchester Community College. We currently have programming in the spring, summer and fall semesters for inquisitive and creative minds in grades K-8. Our longest running program is the Summer Academy for Gifted and Talented Youth in August.

Our Mission

Our mission at Excursions in Learning is to take a leadership role in gifted education and enrichment programming; to be an educational and community resource for the 15 towns in the college’s service area and beyond; and to collaborate with schools, cultural institutions and community groups in educational endeavors.

Our Enrichment Programs & Classes

Spring Semester

Saturday enrichment classes in February, March and April.  This catalog is usually available online by late December.

Summer Semester

This catalog is usually available by mid-March.

  • June & July
    • Full S.TEAM. Ahead! (Grades K-2 & 3-4) one-week program exploring STEAM = science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics. Two separate weeks of programming available. See pages 4-5 of the 2017 summer catalog.
    • The TECH Academy: (Grades 5-8) one-week program exploring technology, science, math and/or engineering. Two separate weeks of programming available. See pages 4-5 in the 2017 summer catalog.
    • Adventures in Leadership Ropes Challenge: (Grades 5-7 or 8-10) one-week session strengthening leadership and teamwork skills. See page 7 in the 2017 summer catalog.
    • Youth Culinary Institute: (Grades 5-8) one-week culinary arts program. Page 6 in the 2017 summer catalog.
    • Intro to Veterinary Medicine and Careers: (Grades 9-12) one-week course to introduce high school students to the many exciting careers in animal science. See page 6 in the 2017 summer catalog. For grade 3-5 & 6-8 versions of this course are on pages 12 & 14.
  • August (July 31-August 11, 2017)
    • Summer Academy for Gifted Youth: (Grades K-8) a two-week exciting and challenging academic program for students in grades K-8. Half-day and full-day courses available. Students must enroll in the full two weeks.

Fall Semester

Saturday enrichment classes in October, November and December. The catalog is usually available on our website in July.
