Sagay and Murphy carry Cougars over Briarwood

MANCHESTER – Ericka Sagay (Bloomfield) had 25 points and 10 rebounds as Manchester Community College (17-2) beat Briarwood College 84-40 for its sixth straight victory Saturday afternoon at the Great Path Academy gym.

Team captain Erika Murphy (Torrington) added 22 points and Kasiana Goodman (Waterbury) had 13 rebounds and ten points for the Cougars.

Tashia Shaw led Briarwood (8-5) with 12 points.
MCC opened the game with a 19-0 run and led 42-14 at halftime.

“We are improving as a team,” MCC head coach Robert Turner, Jr. said. “There are still some areas we need to get better at, but overall we are playing much better than before the break.”

Shenielle Duncan-Clarke (Bloomfield) had near triple-double numbers — nine points, nine assists and eight steals.

MCC concluded the month of January with a 7-1 record and have six games remaining before the NJCAA Division III, Region 21 tournament February 27-28.

The Cougars hosts New Hampshire Tech Tuesday night at Great Path in a 7:30 PM start in non-region action and travel to Brockton, MA to play Massasoit CC Saturday, February 6th
