Roxbury Takes New England Showdown In Convincing Manner

Roxbury CC 112 Manchester CC 55

MANCHESTER – It was billed as a rare opportunity to see two top ten NJCAA Division III teams play during the regular season, but Roxbury CC took all the drama out of the night with a 112-55 victory over previously unbeaten Manchester CC (11-1) Tuesday night before a full house at Great Path Academy gym.

Roxbury (15-2) guard Jessica Williams lead all scorers with 20 points, including four three-point baskets. MCC’s Callie Tambling (Manchester) and Roxbury’s Tyler Kimble each had 15 points.

“Our game plan was basically try to work on some offensive things; trying to get the ball down low to some of our girls,” Roxbury head coach Mark Leszczyk said. “Part of our game plan was to get their big girls in foul trouble, which we did. And that changes the game completely.”

Manchester’s Shenielle Duncan-Clarke (Bloomfield) and Ericka Sagay (Bloomfield) both fouled out while Jazlynn Canino (East Hartford) and Elise Chase (Vernon) played most of the second half with four fouls.

The Tigers, who never trailed in the game, built a 57-24 halftime lead and never looked back. 33 of Roxbury points came off three-pointers.

“We are a full court, man to man team,” Leszczyk said. “ We live and die with it.”

“They outplayed us tonight,” MCC head coach Robert Turner Jr. said. “They outplayed us on offense and they outplayed us on defense. It was as simple as that.”

The MCC Athletic Department raised $385 for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Connecticut Chapter with a Dance & Dunk in Pink Zumba®/Basketball fundraiser.
