Raymond Strikes Out Eight as MCC Gains Split with MassBay
MANCHESTER – (April 2, 2008) After a 10-3 beating in the first game of a double-header Wednesday afternoon, the MCC baseball team needed someone to pick them up in the second. Jeff Raymond (Hebron) answered the call, allowing just two hits and one unearned run in a five-inning game that was called due to darkness.
Making his second start of the year, Raymond (2-0) had eight strikeouts and did not walk a batter as MCC (7-2-1) won the second game 4-1 over MassBay at the McCormick Complex. The sophomore Tri-Captain has yet to allow an earned run or walk a batter over 13 innings while striking out 11 and giving up just eight hits.
Mike Quagliaroli (Windsor Locks) and Pedro Acevedo (New Britain) gave the Cougars the 4-1 lead with RBI triples in the fourth inning. Kevin Clements (Vernon) had an RBI single in the first inning and was 3 for 6 and scored a run as the DH in both games. Clements is hitting .625 (10 for 16) on the season.
In the first game, Steve Aloisa (Windsor Locks) allowed just one run in four innings of relief while Bryan Hager (Burlington) had two singles, a walk, a stolen base and two runs scored.
