Murphy’s 24 Leads MCC to 97-48 Win
NEW HAVEN – The Manchester Community College Women’s basketball won its fourth straight game Thursday night, beating Gateway CC 97-48 in New Haven.
Erika Murphy (Torrington) led the Cougars with 24 points followed by East Hartford’s Katurah Andrews (18) Manchester’s Shanika Hines (16/11 rebounds) and Amanda Colon (15) of New Britain. Maquachera Holder (Hartford) had a season high 14 points as MCC improved to 12-2.
Ladrea Moss had 27 of Gateway’s 48 points.
“It was a sloppy game,” MCC Assistant Coach Peter Harris said. “We turned the ball over 29 times, which is too many. They played hard, but were a little too loose and made a lot of mistakes with the basketball.”
Jhenel Franklin (Windsor), who leads all NJCAA Division III players with 146 assists (11.2 average), had 15 on Thursday along with 10 rebounds and four points.
The Cougars return to action against Bunker Hill CC at 1pm on Sunday at East Catholic High School.
