Monroe College Scores Four in Ninth to Trip Cougars
MANCHESTER – (May 1, 2008) Visiting Monroe College scored four times in the ninth inning to beat MCC 8-6 at McCormick Complex Thursday afternoon. MCC starter Mike Quagliaroli of Windsor Locks struck out eight and left with a 6-4 lead after seven innings. MCC held a 5-0 lead after five innings.
Vernon’s Kevin Clements was 2 for 5 including a double, a run scored and an RBI. South Windsor’s James McGowan had two singles and two runs scored in four at-bats.
Quagliaroli threw 102 pitches and allowed two hits over the first five innings, retiring eight straight after a one-out walk in the first inning. Steve Simon (Middlefield) pitched a perfect eighth inning for the Cougars.
Derek Grundmann (Colchester) had two hits and an RBI and Pedro Acevedo (New Britain) had a RBI triple in the fourth and scored on Aaron Guilbeault’s (Lebanon) double.
