MCC Women Deliver First Win to DaCosta
MANCHESTER, CT – Arianna Rivera (Manchester) had 20 points, nine assists, nine steals and nine rebounds to lead Manchester CC (1-2) to a 70-45 victory over Springfield Tech (0-4) Tuesday night. Haley Cole (Hebron) had 25 points and nine steals in head coach Katie DaCosta’s first win at the college level.
Anne Hawthorn (Stamford) added 20 points for MCC while Nykiesha Robinson led STCC with 19.
“It wasn’t my win, it was the girl’s win,” said DaCosta,who was the head coach of the girls’ team at Classical Magnet before taking over at MCC last spring. “They gave me everything they had, worked very hard and took the critisim and built on it.
The Cougars had 17 days off after opening the season with consecutive losses and DaCosta used the downtime efficiently.
“I was very grateful for the time in between,” DaCosta said. “It wasn’t frustrating being 0-2. I saw a lot of positives and knew they were willing to come back and get ready for their next game.”
MCC travels to Worcester, MA Thursday evening to play Quinsigamond CC and return home to host Northern Essex CC Saturday afternoon at 1PM.
