MCC Women Comeback for 96-81 Win
WORCESTER, MA- Shanika Hines (Manchester) scored 26 points and was 18 of 19 from the foul line as MCC beat Quinsigamond CC 96-81 Thursday night in Worcester.
Jhenel Franklin (Windsor) had a quadruple-double – 13 points, 17 rebounds, 10 assists and 10 steals – as the Cougars came back from a 28-14 first half deficit. Hines and Katurah Andrews (East Hartford) entered the game for the first time with 7:20 remaining in the first half, sparking a 26-10 run that gave MCC a 40-38 halftime lead. Andrews had seven points and five rebounds before fouling out midway through the second half.
“We played through a lot of fouls,” MCC Coach Robert Turner said after his team shot 86% (36 of 42) from the line. “We were aggressive offensively and did a nice job drawing the defenders.” The Cougars (5-1) scored in the 90’s for the sixth straight game.
Amanda Morales (West Hartford) had 25 points, including five three-pointers while Erika Murphy (Torrington) had 12 points and 10 rebounds. Amanda Colon (New Britain) had 13 points.
Quinsigamond drops to 2-9.
MCC plays its final home game of 2008 on Saturday afternoon when Dean College visits the gym at East Catholic for a 1pm game.
