FRAMINGHAM, MA – Sophomore Ericka Sagay (Bloomfield) had 19 points and 13 rebounds as Manchester CC beat Mass Bay CC 77-24 in the season opener for both teams Saturday afternoon.
Callie Tambling (Manchester) had 17 points and Shenielle Duncan-Clarke (Bloomfield) had nine assists, eight rebounds and four steals for the defending Region 21, Division III Champions. The 6’2″ Sagay also had seven steals and six blocks.
Tyra Brooks (Waterbury), who was part of an all-sophomore starting lineup, scored MCC’s first two points of the season as the Cougars built a 49-14 lead at the half. Sixth-year head coach Robert Turner Jr. turned the game over to the bench in the second and they responded with a dominating 28-10 run over the final 20 minutes.
“We were aggressive in terms of the press and trapping in the corners,” Turner said. “There was more good than bad, but we have some things to work on.”
Brooks was joined by Sagay, Tambling, Duncan-Clarke and Kassiana Goodman (Waterbury) in the all-sophomore starting five. Sagay did her damage while playing just over 20 minutes. Sophomore Jazlynn Canino (East Hartford) had ten points and five rebounds.

MCC’s home opener is Thursday at 6PM vs. Gateway CC at the Great Path Academy gym. NJCAA Region 15, Division III defending champion Brookdale CC visits on Sunday, Nov 14 at 1 PM.
