MCC Baseball Team Marches Through March

A Pair of Double-Header Victories Caps off Month

While many were busy nursing NCAA bracket sheets, the MCC Baseball got busy with a 6-1-1 record in the month of March. The team had 10 games wiped out early in the month due to weather related issues, but played eight games in six days, starting with a home victory on Tuesday March 25 in a Region XXI game against Quinsigamond.

Liam Ohlmann (Wallingford/Choate) picked up his first of two victories of the week against Quinsigamond and leads the team with a 2-0 record. The sophomore right-hander did not allow an earned run over 13 innings, striking out 16, while scattering five hits and walking four. Other pitchers picking up wins were Jeff Raymond (Hebron), who threw a complete against Suffolk (Selden) CC, Rob Brown (Rochester, NY/Westfield, MA), Ken Martinik (Thomaston) and Mike Quagliaroli (Windsor Locks). Kevin Garrison (Berlin) and Andrew Hebebrand (Windsor Locks) each recorded saves.

Sophomore Kevin Clements (Vernon) had hits in his first six plate appearances of the year, including an opposite field, two-run home run in his first at-bat, which drove in the first two Cougar runs of the season. Clements is hitting .800 (8 for 10) with three runs scored and five RBI. Leadoff hitter Alan Fredriksson (Torrington) hit .462 (12 for 26) with 10 runs scored and three driven in over the first eight games.

Over the eight game span, MCC pitchers had a 1.29 ERA and held opponents to a .202 average while the offense checked in with a .308 average.
