Lauren Alvarez Records Three Goals as Cougars Win Home Opener Versus Bunker Hill

MANCHESTER, Conn. (Sept. 8) – Freshman forward Lauren Alvarez (GLASTONBURY) had three goals as the Manchester Community College women’s soccer team won its home opener by defeating Bunker Hill Community College 6-0 in a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III Region XXI game Saturday afternoon at on-campus McCormick Athletic Complex.

The Cougars (1-2 overall, 1-2 NJCAA Division III Region XXI) have a three-game winning streak against the Bulldogs (0-1, 0-1) under third-year coach Alex Calpa. MCC has outscored BHCC 20-0 over those three games.

Manchester Community College freshman midfielder Ashley Hall (GOSHEN), freshman forward Chelsea Allen (NEWINGTON) and freshman back Brittany Finger (ENFIELD) each scored their first collegiate goals.

MCC freshman goalkeepers Nicole Morehouse (TOLLAND) and Kyle Roncaioli (WEST HARTFORD) recorded a combined shutout. Morehouse made two first-half saves and assisted on Finger’s second-half goal as a midfielder.

Alvarez scored on a penalty kick to the lower right corner (16:00), on a 4-yard, one-touch kick off of sophomore Katelyn Randlov’s (COLCHESTER) cross from the right side (18:00) and on 4-yard shot to the lower left (60:00). She leads the Cougars in goals (3) and points (7).

Manchester Community College led 1-0 on Hall’s 12-yard shot to the lower left at 3:15. Sophomore Seana Pollard (GLASTONBURY), a 2006 second-team NJCAA Division III All-Region XXI midfielder, had the primary assist.

Alvarez scored the next two goals as MCC increased its lead to 3-0. Allen scored the Cougars’ fourth and final goal of the half on a 20-yard, chest-high shot to the right side of the net at 40:00. Finger scored two minutes into the second half and assisted on Alvarez’s third goal.

Bunker Hill Community College goalkeepers Shannon Haskell and Elyse Ortiz combined for 16 saves.

The Cougars outshot the Bulldogs, 41-3.

Manchester Community College travels to Springfield Technical Community College for a 4 p.m. NJCAA Division III Region XXI game Wednesday.
