LaTresa Lynn Ferrell Named NJCAA Div. III Women’s Basketball Player Of The Week

MANCHESTER, Conn. (Jan. 11, 2006) – Manchester Community College freshman forward LaTresa Lynn Ferrell (EAST HARTFORD) has been named the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending Jan. 7.

Ferrell had a career-high 21 points and tied a career high with 17 rebounds as MCC defeated Quinsigamond Community College 56-38 in its only game of the week on Jan. 7.

The 5-foot-7 Ferrell surpassed her career high of 12 points set in a 61-57 win at Bunker Hill Community College on Dec. 17. The 21-point performance tied freshman forward Lisa Poirier (COLUMBIA) for a team high for an individual this season. Poirier had 21 points in a 76-54 win at Springfield Technical Community College on Dec. 6. Ferrell initially set a career high and a team high for an individual this season with 17 rebounds against Springfield Tech.

Ferrell leads the Cougars (5-5 overall) with 10.2 points and 10.6 rebounds per game. She has four double-doubles on the season and has recorded at least nine rebounds in a game eight times. Ferrell has averaged 12.4 points and 13.8 rebounds in Manchester Community College’s five wins.

Ferrell joined Colin Jackson (HARTFORD), a sophomore All-America forward on the men’s soccer team, as an NJCAA Division III player of the week recipient from MCC for the 2005-06 academic year.

The Cougars host Northern Essex Community College at 1 p.m. Saturday at East Catholic High School in Manchester, Conn.
