Late Goal Lifts Nassau Over MCC
MANCHESTER – Valerie Scaglione scored her second goal of the game with two minutes to play in regulation to lift Nassau CC (2-0) to a 3-2 victory over Manchester CC (0-2) Thursday afternoon.
Sophomores Michelle Magora and Ilyssa Riley, both of Enfield, scored MCC’s goals. Riley, who scored seven goals a freshman last fall, drilled a ball with her left foot to the top right corner of the net from the 18-yard box with four minutes to play, tying the game at 2-all. MCC outshot Nassau 17– 4, in the non-region game. Nassau plays in Region 15, which consists of schools former the lower New York/Long Island area.
“The effort was fantastic,” MCC head coach Jeremy Wilson said after his first home game at the college. “They worked very, very hard they put their hearts and souls into the game. I wish we could have been a little more consistent at times, but we still aren’t 100 percent healthy. We are kind of reshuffling, but I give a lot of credit to the girls.”
Stephanie Price made nine saves for Nassau. MCC travels to Brockton, MA to play Massasoit CC in a Region 21 division game Saturday before returning home to host Springfield Tech Monday afternoon at 4PM.
