Grundmann, Clements Lead Cougars Over Eastern JV

Willimantic, CT – (April 30, 2008) Hebron’s Jeff Raymond pitched five innings and collected his seventh win of the season without a loss Wednesday afternoon as MCC beat Eastern’s JV 12-4in Willimantic.

Vernon’s Kevin Clements hit his second homer of the year, a three-run blast in the Cougars five-run third inning. Derek Grundmann (Colchester) was 4 for 4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored. Aaron Guilbeault (Lebanon) was 2 for 6 with three runs scored and an RBI while Dave Alexander (Torrington) checked in with two hits and two RBI.

Raymond struck out two and scattered five hits, then gave way to Ken Martinik (Thomaston) who gave up one run in three relief innings. Rob Brown (Rochester, NY) pitched a scoreless ninth inning for the Cougars.

MCC has split four games with Eastern so far this year and conclude the season series with a pair of home games against the junior Warriors on Saturday starting at noon. The Cougars played 27 games in April, going 19-7-1 and are now 25-8-2 overall with five games to play. Manchester will host the NJCAA Region XXI May 9-11, with the winner advancing to the NJCAA World Series in Tyler Texas the following weekend.

MCC (25-8-2) hosts Monroe College (Rochester, NY) Thursday afternoon at McCormick Complex on the MCC campus.
