Aimee Bycholski Named to NJCAA Division III All-Region XXI Women’s Basketball First Team

Aimee Bycholski
MANCHESTER, Conn. (March 6) – Manchester Community College sophomore forward/center Aimee Bycholski (MANCHESTER) was named to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III All-Region XXI women’s basketball first team for the second consecutive season and sophomore guard Britt Olander (MANCHESTER) received second-team recognition.
“I am so proud of Aimee and Britt,” second-year MCC coach Robert C. Turner Jr. said. “These two young women represented our program well on and off the court.
“Aimee was a quintessential captain and a relentless presence in the post. Britt became our primary perimeter scorer and allowed us to have a more balanced inside-outside game.”
Bycholski, the only repeat NJCAA Division III All-Region XXI honoree on the 2006-07 team, led the Cougars in scoring (11.7 points per game) for the second straight season. She totaled 444 points (12 points per game) in 37 career games (all starts), the most points for any MCC player since program re-inception (2004-05). She had 15 double-doubles and led (or tied for) a team high in scoring 19 times during her career.
The 5-foot-11 Bycholski tied her career high for points with 22 against the University of Connecticut at Avery Point on Feb. 19. She had 22 points three times during the 2005-06 season (versus Northern Essex Community College on Jan. 14, versus Bunker Hill Community College on Jan. 22 and versus Springfield Technical Community College on Feb. 1). Bycholski’s 22 points were the most scored by an MCC player this season. She recorded a career-high six blocks in the season finale at Suffolk County Community College at Selden, N.Y., on Feb. 24. Her six blocks tied center Jillian Dacko (versus Northern Essex CC on Jan. 15, 2006) for a single-game high since program re-inception.
Olander, the only Manchester Community College player to start all 21 games this season, averaged career bests of 9.6 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. She attempted a career- and team-high 268 shots, nearly four more a game – 81 in total – than any other teammate.
The 5-foot-6 Olander had a season-high 18 points and a career-best 14 rebounds in the Cougars’ 64-58 overtime win against Bunker Hill CC on Jan. 21. She concluded her 40-game career with 315 points (7.9 ppg) and 182 rebounds (4.6 rpg).
MCC finished the 2006-07 season with a 7-14 record (4-6 NJCAA Division III Region XXI).
