Duncan-Clarke, Sagay Named to All-Region 21 First Team
Canino, Tambling Honorable Mentions for 23-2 Cougars

MANCHESTER – Manchester Community College sophomores Ericka Sagay and Shenielle Duncan-Clarke, both of Bloomfield, were named to the National Junior College Athletic Association’s All-Region 21, Division III first team.

Sophomores Jazlynn Canino (East Hartford) and Callie Tambling (Manchester) were Honorable Mentions.

Duncan-Clarke led all Division III players with 8.9 assists and 5.7 steals per game for a second consecutive season as the Cougars made their consecutive trip to the Region 21 championship game. “Shorty” broke her own school assist record in January with 25 as MCC enjoyed win streaks of 11 and 12 games during the 2010-11 campaign and finished with a 23-2 record. The 5’3” point guard also led the nation in steals as a sophomore with 131 (5.6 per game) and was third as a freshman with 107 (4.65). Over two seasons at MCC, Duncan-Clarke collected 576 points (12.o per game), 407 assists (8.5), 271 rebounds (5.6) and 243 steals (5.1).

Sagay, who was also tabbed as a Region 21 first team selection as a freshman, led her team in scoring (17.0 per game), rebounds (12.5) and blocks (68/3.1) for a second consecutive year in 2010-11. The 6’2” center had three consecutive 20-rebound games this past January, including a 28 board effort in January. Sagay was named NJCAA Division III Player of the Week on 11/24/10 and finished her junior college career with 785 points and 612 rebounds in 52 games.

Tambling, who started all of her team’s 53 games over two seasons, averaged 16 points and 3.3 assists per game for MCC in 2010-11. The 5’5” shooting guard established herself as outside threat while playing all 28 games as a freshman when she averaged 12 points, 3.4 rebounds and hit 69 three-pointers, including 10 consecutive vs. Massasoit in the Region 21 semi-final on 2/27/10. The 2009 Manchester High grad averaged 29.1 minutes per game and converted 93 of 141 free-throw attempts (66%) over a career that saw her team post a 47-6 record with a trip to the National Championship tournament in 2010.

Canino, who graduated from Great Path Academy in 2009, averaged 7.3 points and 6.7 rebounds over 52 career games and helped lead the Cougars to a 47-6 record over two seasons. As a sophomore, the 6’2” Canino averaged 9.3 points and 8.1 rebounds and had career highs with 18 points and 17 rebounds in a February win over Holyoke CC at home.
Canino had 352 points, 324 rebounds and blocked 97 shots at MCC for head coach
Robert Turner, Jr. (99-38 over six seasons) and assistant Peter Harris, who are both leaving the program to concentrate on their fulltime jobs at the college..
