Canino Hits the Boards as Cougars Win Tenth Straight

MANCHESTER – Jazlynn Canino (East Hartford) had 18 points and 17 rebounds as Manchester CC (21-1) beat Holyoke CC 68-31 Tuesday night in a Region 21, Division III game.

Freshman Elise Chase (Vernon) scored the first eight points of the game and finished with 16 while
Ericka Sagay (Bloomfield) had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

“We missed a lot of shots, but had a lot of put backs,” MCC assistant coach Peter Harris said. “And Jazz was on fire with the offensive rebounds.”

Canino had 10 offense boards and seven in the defensive end as the Cougars won their tenth straight. MCC shot just 37% from the floor, but out-muscled HCC under both baskets. The Cougars of Manchester held a 35-17 lead at the half, and then put the Cougars of Holyoke away with a 14-2 run to open the second half.

Shenielle Duncan-Clarke (Bloomfield) had nine points, eight rebounds and eight assists.

MCC will play its final home game of the 2010-11 season on Saturday (Feb 19) against Globe Institute at 1PM. The Cougars will defend their Region 21, DIII title Feb 26-27 at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston. Pairings and game times will be announced Tuesday, Feb 22.
