All-Region Team Announced
MANCHESTER – Manchester Community College basketball players Erika Murphy, Ericka Sagay, Shenielle Duncan-Clarke and Manchester’s Callie Tambling were recognized by the NJCAA as All-New England selections for the 2009-10 season.
Murphy, who was a NJCAA preseason All-American and team captain, was named to the first team along with freshman Ericka Sagay. Duncan-Clarke was named to the second team and Tambling was an Honorable Mention pick.
Murphy was also named to the NJCAA Division III National Championship All-Tournament team on March 14th in Rochester, MN and averaged 16 points and 7.5 rebounds two seasons in Manchester.
Sagay averaged 13.6 points and 11.6 rebounds in her first season at the college level. The 6’2” Bloomfield High grad had two games with 20 or more rebounds and played well on the national level, averaging 14.3 points and 12.6 rebounds over three games. MCC beat Anne Arundel CC (MD) 77-66 to capture fourth place in the eight-team, national championship field.
Duncan-Clarke averaged 11.8 points per game and led all NJCAA, Division III players with eight assists per game. The point guard also converted 73% (59-81) of her free throws. Tambling led the Cougars with 69 three-point field goals, including 10 in the Region 21 semifinal against Massasoit CC. MCC finished the season with a program best 24 wins and their first Region title since 2002.
