MCC Gains Split With Sullivan County CC
Madera, Wenz and Sanchez Combine for Shutout
Juan Bisono’s (New Britain) infield single drove in Adam Scanlon (South Windsor) with two out in the bottom of the fifth inning as Manchester CC (2-3) gained a split with Sullivan County CC (1-1) with a 1-0 victory Sunday afternoon at Cheney Tech.

Starting pitcher Kevin Madera (Newington) allowed just two hits while striking out nine over five innings to pick up his second win of the week. Tyler Wenz (Ogdensburg, NJ) struck out the side in the sixth and Luis Sanchez (New London) earned the save with a scoreless seventh.

“All the guys pounded the zone with fastballs, throwing a lot of strikes,” MCC head Coach Chris Strahowski said. “That’s how you win ballgames.”

The game ended with Sanchez tagging out Sullivan’s Miguel Lopez at home plate in a failed attempt to score on a wild pitch.

“After digging a bit of a hole in game one, it’s nice to get a split against a team that is obviously going to be very, very good within their region,” Strahowski said.

Joe Santana pitched five innings as Sullivan CC (Loch Sheldrake, NY) won the first game 7-4.

Vin Sommo (Clinton) doubled and walked in each game. A. J. Lowers was 2 for 3 with a double and a walk while Tyler Kapushinski (New Britain) threw 3 1/3 no-hit, no-run innings in relief, retiring the last seven batters he faced in the first game.
