MCC Women Basketball Set to Open Great Path Academy Gym
After 30 years on the road, the Manchester CC basketball program finally has a home.
The MCC Women will play the first basketball game at the newly constructed Great Path Academy Gym on Thursday, November 12 at 6PM vs. Gateway CC. The gym is located on the Manchester Community College campus.
Head Coach Robert Turner will have NJCAA Division III Preseason All-American Erika Murphy and a promising group of freshman for his fifth season as the MCC head coach.
“East Catholic was great about letting us use their gym,” Turner said. “But it’s just good to have your own gym on campus. We don’t have to have late practices anymore. They are on campus and go to study hall. They can meet with the trainer on campus and won’t have to get taped three or four hours before practice.”
The Cougars opened the 2009—10 season on the road with a 96-26 victory over MassBay CC in Framingham, MA on Saturday, and have been getting accustomed to their new home since practice began on October 1st.
“For the players it’s really big deal,” Turner said. “Now we truly have a home court advantage. We know how the rims feel, how the backboard feels and how to shoot off of it.”
MCC is 52-32 in four years under Turner, including a 37-6 mark over the past two seasons.
