MCC Women Beat Springfield Tech 97-66

MANCHESTER- Jhenel Franklin (Windsor) had a triple-double and Shanika Hines (Manchester) had 22 points to lead MCC to a 97-66 win over Springfield Technical Community College Tuesday night at East Catholic.

Franklin had 12 points, 13 rebounds and 13 assists while Hines’ 22 points included four three-pointers. Amanda Morales (West Hartford) scored 10 consecutive points in less than two minutes late in the first half, leading to MCC’s 51-24 advantage through the first 20 minutes. Morales finished the night with 20 points.

The Cougars have scored at least 94 in every game, but Coach Robert Turner was not completely satisfied. “Expectations are high for this team,” Turner said after his team improved to 4-1. “We go through periods when we are a little lackadaisical. I was impressed with the last ten minutes of the game, though.”

Erika Murphy (Torrington) and Katurah Andrews (East Hartford) each had 14 points. Murphy had 13 rebounds while Andrews had 10 with six steals.

Both teams made free-throwing look easy – MCC made 15 out of 18 from the line and STCC (3-4) was 12 of 14.

MCC travels to Worcester on Thursday for a 6pm game against Quinsigamond CC before returning home for a 1 PM Saturday matinee against Division I Dean College at East Catholic.
