Quagliaroli, Acevedo Lead MCC Over Quinsigamond
Worcester, MA, – (April 24, 2008) Mike Quagliaroli (Windsor Locks) allowed one run over seven innings as MCC beat Quinsigamond CC 10-2 in Worcester Thursday afternoon. Pedro Acevedo (New Britain) was 3 for 4, including a bases loaded triple in the eighth inning. Brian Hager (Burlington) was 2 for 4 with a pair of runs batted in, Alan Fredriksson (Torrington)was 2 for 5 with two RBI and Aaron Guilbeault (Lebanon) was 2 for 3 with an RBI.
Quagliaroli (5-0) allowed a run in the first inning, then threw six shut out innings, mixing seven hits with seven strikeouts and two walks.
The mercy-rule was applied after eight innings with Manchester leading by eight runs. MCC beat Quinsigamond by an identical 10-2 score on March 25, the first game of the season for the Cougars.
MCC finished the Division III portion of the Region XXI schedule with an 11-3 record. The Cougars are 22-6-2 overall and will play a pair of double headers on the road over the weekend. On Saturday the team travels to Eastern Connecticut for two games, then visits Region XXI, Division II UConn-Avery Point for a pair of games Sunday.
The Cougars will play in, and host the NJCAA Region XXI tournament on May 9-11. The winner of the four-team, double elimination tournament will move on to the NJCAA World Series in Tyler Texas starting on May 17.
