Minimum Qualifications

Applicant must have knowledge of police and security practices and procedures; knowledge of relevant state and federal laws, statutes and regulations; knowledge of traffic and crowd control practices and procedures; knowledge of criminal law and court procedures; knowledge of juvenile law and practices; considerable interpersonal skills; oral and written communication skills; ability to analyze emergency situations and develop effective courses of action.  An understanding of the mission of the community college, a demonstrated ability to respond to and work with multiple constituencies, and involvement in support of a culturally and ethnically diverse population are essential. General Experience: Certification as a law enforcement officer in the State of Connecticut pursuant to regulations promulgated by the Connecticut Police Officer Standards and Training Council. Special Requirement: Candidates MUST possess a current valid P.O.S.T. certification and be able to pass all P.O.S.T. requirements for lateral transfers; Incumbents in this class must be eligible and qualified to bear arms. Physical Requirement: A physical examination will be required of all applicants. Note: The filling of this position will be in accordance with reemployment, SEBAC, transfer, promotion and merit employment rules.

Responsibilities

Performs police functions and duties in accordance with departmental standards and procedures; performs a full range of public enforcement, protection, and security functions;  responds  to emergencies and requests for assistance; conducts  police investigations; enforces  motor vehicle and criminal statutes;  completes/reviews  arrest paperwork; coordinates exchange of information among shifts and other law enforcement agencies; enforces regulations relating to parking and traffic control; may testify  in court regarding police issues; speaks  with public groups and organizations about relevant security topics; may serve as dispatcher at the communications desk;  monitors security alarm systems;  locks/unlocks designated buildings and classrooms; provides public direction at events and in the course of daily patrols; directs traffic; conducts  patrols in police cruiser and on foot; and other assigned duties as necessary.

Minimum Salary/Compensation

$53,540*-$70,449              (*New State Employees start at minimum salary)
