Assistant in Human Resources (CSCU Management Confidential Position)

Minimum Qualifications

Demonstrated ability to understand and apply personnel policies and procedures in a way that meets legal and regulatory requirements and that supports the college’s management in their objective of recruiting and retaining appropriately qualified staff and providing effective administration of sound human resource management programs. These skills and abilities normally are acquired through a combination of experience and training in human resource administration of at least four years. Bachelor's degree in human resource management preferred or government administration for two of those years is highly desired for personnel administration in institutions of higher learning. This position performs skilled and para-professional services in a broad range of campus-based human resource areas which can include employment,  affirmative action, dual employment, fair employment practices, confidential records management, training administration and general administrative assistance. This position is distinguished from clerical support positions by virtue of involvement in personnel practices.

Responsibilities

The incumbent will be responsible for the following major functional area:
  • Assists and coordinates projects for Human Resources, Payroll and Affirmative Action
  • Researches information from the CORE-CT system, including data audits and various reports and updates
  • Processes background checks
  • Conducts new employee orientation and exit interviews
  • Provides customer service to faculty and staff, and to personnel outside of the college
  • Assists in contract administration, including dual employment, part-time lecturers and educational assistants
  • Assists in recruitment and selection process including working with search committees
  • Explains regulations, policies and procedures to the public and employees
  • Uses human resource information systems, analyzes and gathers data, solves problems
  • Demonstrates interpersonal skills, oral and written communication skills
  • Has knowledge of labor relations and contract administration
  • Has knowledge of affirmative action principles and requirements
  • Performs related duties as required
Incumbents must successfully complete the State of Connecticut Certificate in Human Resources Management Program within six (6) months of appointment.

Minimum Salary/Compensation

$57,535 minimum -$77,840 maximum (FLSA classification: Exempt) Work Schedule:   8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. (40 hours per week), Monday-Friday
