Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in English required.  Demonstrated knowledge and abilities in the understanding of the principles and concepts of tutoring developmental through college-level English. Understanding of computer applications for English, including operation and set up procedures.  Skills in tutoring and basic instruction and strong information literacy skills. These skills and abilities typically are acquired through a combination of education, training and experience that would include a bachelor’s degree in the assigned academic field or a closely allied field in addition to one to two years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of experience and training that would lead to the competencies required to carry out the position’s essential duties.  An understanding of the mission of the community college is essential. In addition, the following core skills are required: demonstrated involvement in support of diversity, demonstrated ability to respond to and work with multiple constituencies, and demonstrated computer literacy, including instructional applications. Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Academic Support Center (ASC) Director, the English Tutor would provide individual and group tutoring; assist students in carrying out assignments, including giving supplemental instruction in the academic discipline being applied; meet regularly with faculty and the ASC Director; visit classrooms and observe classroom instruction; provide information to faculty on student performance; and provide input for required reports related to English students. Attendance and participation at staff trainings and professional meetings is required.

Minimum Salary/Compensation

$28.88/hour; 8 hours/week. Day or evening hours may be required.
