Carl D’Alvia’s sculptures and drawings have been described as “vernacular surrealism.” Uncanny and deceptive, his forms are both familiar and elusive. Often minimalistic, they hint at figuration but then are obscured by obsessive ornamentation, bringing them into the realm of the imaginary and metaphorical. D’Alvia is based in New York and West Cornwall, Conn., and his work has been widely exhibited.
