During the 1700 and 1800s , contributions of men of color to America’s maritime tradition portrayed a life beyond the fields of southern plantations. Blacks sailed the seas, bringing skill and song to commerce and trade on the world’s oceans. A talk by MCC Music Professor Deborah Simmons based upon her sabbatical research.
