NetIDs

NetID is the account used to log in to computers at MCC as well as access online information from the myCommNet student information system.

NetID Username

Your NetID username is composed of the following two items:

  1. Your eight-digit Banner ID number (numerals only; e.g. 12345678)
  2. Your Domain
    • The student domain is @student.commnet.edu (Note: even though it looks like an email address, email is not available). If you had the Banner ID of @01234567, then your NetID username would be:
      01234567@student.commnet.edu
    • The employee domain is @mcc.commnet.edu (Note: even though it looks like an email address, email is based on your first initial + last name)If you had the Banner ID of @01234567, then your NetID username would be:
      01234567@mcc.commnet.edu

NetID Password

Your initial NetID password is a combination of personal information as follows:

  1. 1st three characters of birth month with the first letter CAPITALIZED
  2. Ampersand character (&)
  3. Last 4 digits of your social security number (SSN)

If your birthday is10/24/79 and you have a SSN of 123-45-6789, then your NetID initial password is: Oct&6789 You will be required to change your password the first time you logon.

Password Requirements

The following requirements must be followed when selecting a NetID password.

  • At least eight characters
  • Must contain characters from three of the four categories:
    1. Uppercase characters (A through Z)
    2. Lowercase characters (a through z)
    3. Numeric digits (0 through 9)
    4. Special characters (for example, !, $, #, %)
  • Cannot contain all or part of the user’s NetID account name
  • Password must differ from previous passwords
  • Password is forced to change every 90 days, but can be changed sooner

NetID Password Reset Utility

Students and faculty can access the NetID web utility to reset lost or forgotten NetID passwords. Note: you must set your hint question in myCommNet before you can use this utility.

This function is not available to staff.

The password  reset utility can be accessed at supportcenter.ct.edu/NetID from:

  • Library
  • Open computer lab (B-206)
  • College kiosks in AST tower lobby, and first and second floor of the entry between the SSC and LRC
  • From any computer – on-campus or off- connected to the Internet

Prior to resetting a password, you will have to verify your identity by entering the following personal information in addition to the Banner ID:

  • Birth Date
  • Social Security Number
  • myCommNet Hint Question
