Meteorology is the study of weather systems, the atmosphere, climate issues and forecasting. At MCC, meteorology courses may be used to satisfy a student’s general education knowledge areas in science.
A career as a meteorologist generally requires an advanced degree. Employment opportunities can be found in environmental consulting companies, government agencies, education, private industry and radio and television broadcasting.
Students who are interested in meteorology will often transfer into a bachelor’s degree program to continue their studies in meteorology or a related field such as environmental sciences. Students who are thinking of transferring are encouraged to meet with their academic advisors to discuss their plans and how MCC courses transfer to other institutions. More information on the transfer options available at MCC can be found in the Transfer Services portion of the web site.
