Black History Month

MCC kicked off its 2017 Black History Month celebrations with an opening ceremony today, February 1, in the GPA Community Commons. Black History Month is sponsored by the Office of Student Activities, Office of Mentoring and Cultural Programs and the MCC Minority Caucus. Under the banner theme, “Love and Justice,” today’s event included welcome remarks by President Gena Glickman, Remarks by Dean of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management G. Duncan Harris, and an overview and awards presentation by Keith Carter, coordinator of Mentoring and Cultural Programs. Award winners were Semoy Lester and Phillip Hylton, recipients of the Student Leadership Awards; Dr. Deborah Simmons, of the Employee Leadership Award; and Andrew Woods, executive director, Hartford Communities that Care, Inc., of the Community Leadership Award.
