Artist Statement
I like to explore and photograph the ordinary things that we use and see in everyday life. I am fascinated by these little moments and things. Often these ordinary things are overlooked or taken for granted. I enjoy older and well used objects that have through time developed texture and character. Sometimes it is the shape, form, texture, or the light, shadow, angle and contrast that interests and motivates me to investigate a subject more closely and photograph it. I work in a spontaneous and intuitive way when I am photographing and sometimes it is simply the ordinary moment that inspires me to photograph something.
I look past the obvious and observe the subject. The challenge is to see beyond the distraction of what you first see as ordinary and to photograph what is unique about the subject. Some of my subjects are quite beautiful, others less so. My goal is to inspire those who see my work to look more carefully at the world around them to discover beauty in ordinary places and things.
I have found it has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see and photograph them, which makes the ordinary become more than ordinary
