Open Computer Labs

The college’s main open computer lab is located in the Raymond F. Damato Learning Resource Center, LRC B206. The phone number in this room is 860-512-2859.

About the Labs

MCC’s open computer labs are managed by the Library and the Educational Technology and Distance Learning department.

The open computer labs are staffed at all times. Lab monitors are there to help students with all kinds of problems, such as logging in or using the printing system. Students are urged to turn to the lab monitors to answer questions. Lab monitors will answer technical questions to the best of their knowledge. (Students are referred to the Academic Support Center for tutoring.)

The Open Computer Lab (B206) is open to MCC students, faculty and staff on a reduced schedule during the Fall 2020 semester.  See below for hours and holidays.  Use of computers  within the Open Computer Lab require an appointment.

Students  must book an appointment to use the computers in the Open Computer Lab for a maximum of two hours per day. Please check in with Lab Monitor upon checking in and checking out.  We are providing disinfecting wipes for before and after each use. Wipes will be provided at entrance of LRC B206.

Open Computer Lab printer will be available but we strongly encourage social distancing practices. Disinfecting wipes will be provided to students to wipe down print station touch screens and styluses.

Students must have a NetID to use any computer, both PCs or Macs.

It is strongly recommended that students bring a flash drive (also known as a thumb drive) that connects to computers via a USB port. All documents stored on computers in the open computer labs will be automatically deleted upon logging out.

While students are not allowed to connect their own laptops to the college network connections, MCC’s wireless network is available in many areas of the campus.

Computer Lab Rules

Students using the computer lab must abide by the rules. Lab monitors have the authority to enforce the rules and to have students leave the lab if they do not abide by the rules.

Computers within the Open Computer Lab (LRC B206)  may be booked up to two (2) hours per day. Once booked, you’ll receive an email confirmation. All students with computer bookings MUST check in with the Lab Monitor at the entrance of B206 before proceeding to their assigned computer and check out with the Lab Monitor when they leave. This is to ensure the health and safety of all Lab users and staff.

In addition to the Open Lab Rules Policy:

Before reserving a computer, students must agree to the following additional lab use policies:

Printing in the Computer Lab

As part of our campus-wide effort to reduce our use of natural resources, MCC has instituted a pay-for-print system, called PaperCut that charges $.08 per page to print in the computer labs, Library and Academic Support Center. It also allows you to make copies and scan documents.

Here’s how the system works:

Save your document!

Always save your document on a removable device, like a flash drive.

To print:

  • As a student at MCC, a PaperCut account has already been created for you that uses your Banner ID# as your account name and your NetID password as your pay-for-print password. You may add funds to your account using the kiosk in the Library or Open Computer Lab. In turn, you can use the printers in the computer labs, the Library or the Academic Support Center.
  • Follow the instructions on the wall by the printer.
  • Be certain of your selection(s)! You are responsible for any selections you make by mistake!
